0 The Life of Pran Sahab





All about his life: A multiple award winner, Pran Sikhand was born on 12th February,1920 at Delhi in a prosperous family. He was gifted with intelligence and talent which saw him exploring the heights of excellence in the course of time. His parents and noble family traditions were responsible for his achievements in later life. Some of his character traits reflected generous attitude, being noble, emotional and sensitive. He possessed a heart of gold. As he grew up he inculcated elements of refinement and culture. During his lifetime he commanded high respect and experienced love and admiration from every one. The vitality of his action packed life was a result of his frank and candid attitude. His father was a government civil contractor and he was educated at different place at different times. Pran got married in 1945 and was blessed with a son and daughter there after. Apart from films, Pran was also associated with social work in the form of being member of various organizations like Punjab Association, Mumbai, CCI club Mumbai, Bombay Provincial Hockey Association, Western Indian Football Association Bombay, only to name a few. He was a great sports lover and formed a football team of his own. He named it as "Dynamos Football Club" and financed it too for many years.

All about his career: Acknowledged as a great performer in Bollywood films, Pran even won BFJA award and starred in more than 270 films. In most of the films he played supporting roles. For his contribution to the Indian cinema, he was also awarded with Padmabhushan.

Though in most of his films he played villainous characters, contrary to the roles he played on screen he was a gem of a person. It is interesting to know that before coming into the domain of films, he wanted to become a professional photographer. During his early struggling days, he came in contact with the writer Wali Mohammad Wali at a shop in Hira Mandi which landed him with a villainous role in a Punjabi film. The first Hindi movie in which he starred was "Khandaan". After the partition, Pran moved his base to Mumbai and worked in many Hindi movies. A legend in his own right, he was acknowledged as the "villain of the millennium" for completing a marathon of six decades long career and was one of the most celebrated actors of the Hindi film industry.

1972 - Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award for Be-Imaan

1972 - Filmfare Best Actor Award for Parichay
1997 - Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award
In the 1950s and 1960s, Pran won many Filmfare Best Villain Awards, he was even honored with Bombay film award for the most versatile actor. He got innumerable recognitions and awards.
